Muffin Asbury

AsburyGeorgianna Topping Asbury, known as Muffin, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, at the age of 73.

Muffin brought warmth, happiness and an unmistakable spark to the lives of everyone who knew her. Her joyful spirit and gift for making others feel loved will live on in the hearts of her children and countless friends.

Born in Albany, N.Y., on Aug. 21, 1953, Muffin grew up in Colonial Williamsburg, where her mother worked in the alumni office at the College of William & Mary.

Her love of children led her to run a daycare center in her early years and for two decades, Muffin dedicated herself to the boys at Christchurch School, where she ran the PX. What might have been simply a school store became a place of warmth, encouragement and connection. She had a way of making people feel seen and welcome, and the relationships she formed there held a special place in her life.

Above all, Muffin was a wonderful mother to Wendy, Kelly and Chris. She gave her children the enduring gift of knowing they were deeply loved. Her warmth, encouragement, and joyful spirit made her someone they could turn to for comfort and someone with whom they could celebrate life’s happiest moments. She championed each of them as their own person, and the love she poured into their lives will remain a source of strength and comfort. Of all the people she made feel at home, her children will always carry that feeling with them.

Muffin spent the last 25 years enjoying retirement in Locust Hill, where she cared for her mother, tended her garden, and shared her home with a succession of much-loved dogs. People, children and dogs naturally gravitated toward her. Her energy was electric, her happiness contagious, and strangers quickly became friends. Dogs seemed to recognize in her a safe place to land; some adopted her and moved in, knowing they had found someone who would love them.

She is survived by her children, Wendy Galleher and her husband Wayne of Weems, Kelly Csernica and her husband Jim of Charlotte, N.C., Chris Asbury of Locust Hill, and her grandson, Braxton Galleher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Asbury; and her mother, Trudi Topping.

Muffin’s ability to find happiness and share it with others was one of her most enduring gifts. She leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and joy, most deeply rooted in the family she cherished. She will be remembered in the garden she nurtured, the dogs she loved, the boys she encouraged, and the many people who felt at home in her company.
