It is with great sadness that the family of Mildred Ward Ailsworth, 92, formerly of Deltaville, and Virginia Beach, announce her passing on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021 in a Virginia Beach hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Ward and Virginia Harrow Ward; her husband, Alfred Ailsworth; and her siblings, James Henry Ward, Millard Donald Ward, and Almedia Ward Dozier. She is survived by her five children, Alfred (Pam) Ailsworth Jr., Stephanie (Terry) Greenquist, Ellen Ailsworth, Millicent (Larry) Wilson, and William Ailsworth. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brooke Ailsworth (Billy) Bertrand, Justin Ailsworth, Dylan (Aly) Greenquist, Taylor (Brittany) Greenquist, Avery Greenquist (David) Walsh, Jack Lord, Benjamin Wilson; and five great-grandchildren, Raylan and River Bertrand, John Lord V, Isla Greenquist, Elsie Greenquist and David Walsh III.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Throughout her life, Mildred’s priorities included the raising and educating of her five children. The church remained central in her life, and her closest friends were those in a women’s Bible study group that met for many years. She nurtured and treasured each one of those relationships as they came together to learn and discover the heart of Jesus. Mildred continued to share her faith as she travelled on mission trips to Moldova, Russia and the Dakotas. One of her last conversations was about her joy of meeting Jesus in heaven. The family thanks everyone for their prayers, acts of kindness and support throughout Mildred’s life and her recent illness.
A memorial service for family and friends is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at Philippi Christian Church in Deltaville. It will be followed by a reception.
Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel in Saluda is assisting the Ailsworth family.
