Middlesex notches 16-6 baseball win

The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity baseball team (8-8, 4-2) defeated Mathews High School, 16-6, on Thursday, May 14.

The Chargers peppered Mathews’ pitching staff connecting on 13 hits in the 16-run win. MHS was paced by Jacob Nowell who had three hits and three RBIs. Caleb Hoegerl, Aiden Stith, Cash Steel, Bryson Bulgin and Henry Fleet contributed two hits each. Stith connected for the only extra base hit in the game with a double and Blake Robins got one hit.

Bulgin was the winning pitcher, completing four innings, striking out six batters and allowing two hits. Aiden Stith pitched one inning allowing four hits and six runs. Nathan Rutkowski closed out the game pitching two innings with no hits and no runs.

The Chargers have two more regular season games. MHS played West Point on Tuesday, May 19, and will travel to Northampton on Virginia’s Eastern Shore to take on the Yellow Jackets today, Thursday, May 21. The game starts at 4:30 p.m.
