Middlesex football players receive All-District honors

Coaches of the Tidewater District selected Middlesex High School (MHS) linebacker Jakub Bowen as All-Tidewater District Defensive Player of the Year.

Bowen led the district with 10.3 tackles per game at the middle linebacker position and had two interceptions, just one behind JaMar Hammond who had three for the Chargers.

Offensive All-District teams

MHS had two players to make first team All-Tidewater District. Davonte Griffin was named first team in offense in two positions as Griffin was named first team as a running back and a receiver.

Zachary Dean was also named to the first team All-District squad at the offensive lineman position. Dean is a senior who is a dominant force at the offensive tackle position.

Andrew Harrow was named second team All-Tidewater District at the center position; Bryson Howell South, offensive lineman; Bowen at the running back position and receiver spot; Maliki Reaves, tight end; Jacob Hatton, kicker; and Griffin, kick returner and all-purpose offense.

Defensive All-District teams

MHS had seven first team defensive honors. Bowen was named All-District first team at the linebacker position; Harrow, defensive lineman; Dean, defensive lineman; Griffin, linebacker and punt returner; Hammond, linebacker; and Vincent Santos, defensive back.

Travis Archer was named second team All-District at the defensive lineman position. Hatton was named as a punter and Bowen was second team as an all-purpose defensive player.

The Chargers ended their season with a 5-6 overall win-loss record (3-1 in district) and made it to the first round of the Region A football tournament. MHS lost to the Northumberland Indians 45-14 in the first round.
