Squad’s ‘home’ meet is Jan. 17
The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger co-ed swim team continues to improve as the season enters the mid phase. “They are amazing,” said MHS Swim Coach Shannon Sears. “They are improving each time they get in the pool.”
The 2025-2026 team has several new swimmers. “They are bonding as a team and really supporting each other,” said Sears.
The Chargers swim team outscored Northumberland winning by a significant margin.
“Every swimmer has improved in some aspect,” said Sears. “Seeing a group of swimmers ranging from eighth grade to twelfth grade work hard and support each other is so rewarding to watch.
“Coach Jill Shores and I are honored to be able to watch the journey of these kids,” Sears added. “They represent Middlesex High School extraordinarily well with their talent and sportsmanship.”
The Charger swim team uses the pool at the Northern Neck Family YMCA at 39 William B. Graham Court in Kilmarnock as its “home pool.”
“These amazing swim kids for Middlesex meet the bus at 5 a.m. in order to practice at the YMCA in Kilmarnock from 5:45-6:45 on four mornings a week!” Sears said. “It’s amazing dedication from teenagers.”
