Boasting eight returnees, the 2021-2022 Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity softball team is expected to draw on its experience to show strong improvement over last year’s younger squad, which finished 2-6 overall, 2-2 in district. This year’s team also has five new players.
“Our defense has been outstanding,” said Head Coach Jennifer Morotini. “With young pitching it’s so important to have a defense you trust behind you, and ours has been outstanding.” This is Morotini’s first year as head MHS varsity softball coach, although she has coached the junior varsity softball team for three years.
The Charger girls defeated Bruton 36-5 in a March 8 home scrimmage, according to the Virginia High School League website. MHS lost to Northumberland 7-0 in March 15 away action, MHS lost to Lancaster in March 18 home action and MHS lost to Northumberland 4-1 in March 22 home action. No other results were available at press time.
Middlesex plays in the Tidewater District, which includes Carver, Charles City, Mathews, King and Queen Central, King William and West Point.
