When buying a boat, make sure of its condition before purchasing and take advice from those who know boats and the local waters. That’s the message Urbanna Town Marina Manager Joyce Eanes says new boat owners need to listen to.
Two months ago, the 1987 34-foot yacht “Sea Esta” arrived at the town marina. The boat was recently purchased and had leaking issues from the get-go. Eanes, out of concern the vessel might sink at the town dock, encouraged the owner to find a place for repairs. She suggested several local marinas that could haul and repair the boat, but the owner decided on a marina on another river.
Eanes questioned whether the boat could make the trip and voiced those concerns to the owner. “I told him, ‘If you are going to go that far, you need names of maintenance facilities along the way to help if there is a major problem.’”
