The Board of Stewards for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock (UUFR), a White Stone church, annually designates a member as its “Unsung Hero.”

For 2025, the board selected Marge Rowden of Heathsville. She has belonged to UUFR alongside her husband, Dave Rowden, since 2008.

Marge Rowden was chosen for her many tasks over her 17 years of membership. Among other responsibilities, she has served as a trustee, a board member, a membership co-chairman, a longtime caring circle chairman and as a leader of the charitable giving committee.

She is currently a member of the decor team. She also has been a longtime procurer of all of UUFR’s kitchen and bathroom supplies.

“I probably have missed some things, but you get the idea,” Janet Hemming, UUFR’s board president through December 2025, said when she announced the award to the congregation last month. “Marge has been active in all areas of UUFR over many years.”

Marge Rowden later said she was indeed surprised by the honor. “Others also deserve this award,” she noted. “But I was just doing what needed to be done.”
