On Saturday, February 1, at 10 a.m. the Friends of the Gloucester Museum and the Black History Committee will unveil and dedicate a memorial marker and stand in honor of Irene Morgan. The marker will be placed at Hook Road and Route 17, Gloucester.

In 1944, Irene Morgan, a native of Gloucester, refused to give up herseat on a northbound Greyhound bus. She was arrested and jailed. She sued and her case was heard in 1946 by the US Supreme Court. The Court decided in her favor and interstate travel was desegregated.
