The Middlesex County School Board voted Wednesday, May 5 to accept the resignation of School Superintendent Peter Gretz.
School board Chairman Claudia Soucek stated at the meeting the resignation becomes effective June 30.
“Dr. Gretz has served the Middlesex County Public Schools community these past five years with vision, integrity, fortitude and outstanding leadership,” she stated. “We thank Dr. Gretz for his dedicated service to our school system and community at large. The board wishes the best for Dr. Gretz and his family in their new community. Our loss is its gain.”
In an email on Wednesday to the MCPS community, Dr. Gretz said, “I will be leaving Middlesex this June. I have accepted the offer to become the next superintendent of the Fluvanna County Public School System and will begin my new role July 1.
“I am so grateful to have served the Middlesex community and to have had the privilege of navigating challenges and celebrating the many joys with you,” he wrote.
“I could not have asked for a more supportive, thoughtful and deeply caring school board or a more talented, committed and inspiring group of colleagues to have shared this journey.”
Soucek said, “The board will move forward in a thoughtful and expeditious manner to hire a division superintendent and the process will include input from all stakeholders about the characteristics of our next superintendent. The board will keep you informed throughout the search process.”
