Genevieve Bristow “Bege” Mathews, 100, of Winchester, and formerly of Front Royal, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024 at The Willows in Winchester.
Services will be private.
Bege was born Sept. 7, 1923 in Urbanna, daughter of the late Cuthbert and Marie Potts Bristow.
She was a dedicated teacher at Warren County High School for 36 years. Bege was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Front Royal for many years and a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
She was married to the late Edward Menefee “Teddy” Mathews.
Surviving is a daughter, Susan Claiborne Mathews (William Boyer, II) of Winchester; four grandchildren, Catharine Nolde Robertson (Ronald Spencer), the Rev. Edward Weston Mathews (Loriana), William Tyler Board (Alison), and Elizabeth “Tessa” Board (Justin Fishback); and two great-grandchildren, Edward “Teddy” Fishback, and Rosalee Clairborne Fishback.
