Glen Allen’s Bendura gets his third D’ville 5K win;
MHS standout Lambert is the runner-up
Jordan Bendura, 23, of Glen Allen won the 14th Deltaville 5K Saturday, finishing in 15 minutes, 21 seconds — just one second shy of the 2023 course record. It was his third time winning the race — he also won in 2022 and 2021.
The first Middlesex County male to cross the finish line was Cameron Lambert, 18, of Hartfield (17:06), followed by Gunnar Marston, 17, of Gloucester (18:48). Both Lambert, the second place finisher, and Marston, the third place finisher, were standout athletes on Middlesex High School’s (MHS) track and cross country teams.
Chesley Stiker, 27, of Norfolk finished with the fastest female time (21:15) and Hannah Kate Harrison, 18, of Richmond had the second fastest female time (21:18).
The first Middlesex County female to cross the finish line was Marsha Jedlinski, 40, of Saluda (23:57).
Race registration numbers ended up being slightly lower than last year, but still well above previous post-pandemic events. “We had 487 registrations across all race options (45 Kids Fun Run; 436 5k; 8 Virtual),” race rep Jennifer White said. “Four-hundred-and-twelve participants crossed the 5K finish line.”
Event supports DCA
The 3.1-mile Independence Day-themed foot race, which starts and finishes in front of the Deltaville Community Association (DCA) building and mostly uses stretches of General Puller Highway and Lovers Lane for its route, is a DCA fundraiser that helps maintain the DCA’s various community facilities.
