Over the weekend, about 80 girls tried out for a new travel volleyball club forming for the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. It is called Rappahannock River Volleyball Club (RRVC).

The “travel” volleyball teams will begin play in January 2026 after the high school seasons are over, explained Middlesex High School (MHS) Varsity Volleyball Coach Brian Walton, who is one of the organizers of the travel teams. Walton said he was encouraged to see such a large turnout at MHS’s John S. Clements Memorial Gymnasium.

Girls from 12 through 18 years of age from throughout the area will have another chance to tryout for the RRVC team.

The teams will use facilities in Middlesex, Lancaster, Mathews, and Gloucester counties for practice.

The season features games in Richmond, Washington, D.C., Louisville, Ky., and Florida.
