Renovations at the Tom Carter Memorial Gymnasium at the Cooks Corner Office Complex are complete and at the Dec. 7, 2021 Middlesex County Board of Supervisors meeting supervisors and staff recessed for a pizza dinner and to see the completed renovations. Along with eating pizza, the board shot a few hoops.

The $830,761 contract with Trinity USA Contracting of White Stone to renovate the building included a new heating and air conditioning (HVAC) system and new electrical, windows and doors in the gym that was the segregation-era home of the all-Black St. Clare Walker High School Wolverines. The renovation also included upgrades throughout the rest of the building which houses the Middlesex County Social Services Department and the public school administrative offices. The gym is used by the Middlesex Parks and Recreation Department.

This is the first time the gym, added to the 1939 school in 1953, has had air conditioning.
