Churches in Brief: July 16, 2026

Congregants at Lower United Methodist Church (LUMC) at 120 Lower Church Road in Hartfield invite everyone to join them this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for their traditional worship service in their historic sanctuary.

Adult Sunday school is offered Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in the LUMC Fellowship Hall, preceded by Coffee Fellowship beginning at 9:15 a.m.

Their women’s choral ensemble, Wellspring, meets Monday at 6 p.m.; and at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, their handbell choir, Embellish, will practice.

The community is invited to stop by LUMC Fellowship Hall Wednesdays from 7:30-9 a.m. for free coffeehouse drinks.

All are invited to a time of group prayer every Wednesday at 4 p.m. See their website, lowerumc.org, for information.

As part of their ongoing summer concert series, they will be inviting a talented jazz pianist to LUMC. Please join them on July 16 at 6 p.m. as Alfred Yun will be bringing a blend of jazz, touches of rock, K-pop, traditional Korean and classical influences.

Macedonia Baptist Church, 2491 Ashdale Road, Center Cross, will host its annual homecoming service on Sunday, July 26, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served immediately following the morning service. The afternoon service will begin at 3 p.m., featuring Apostle Larry Robinson of Little Ark Baptist Church as the guest speaker.

The annual revival services are set for 7 p.m. nightly Wednesday-Friday, July 29-31.

  • Wednesday, July 29 – The Rev. Dr. Connie Gardner, Union Hope Baptist Church.
  • Thursday, July 30 – Associate Minister Stanley Gresham, Grafton Baptist Church.

On Sunday, July 19, at 11 a.m., Antioch Baptist Church of Saluda will host its annual Youth Day program. The guest speaker will be Jasmine Smith, along with special guests, the Called to Worship Praise Dance Team and special selection by Kenyah Bass.

“Join us as we celebrate our Youth Day,” an Antioch spokesman urged.


Zion Hill Baptist Church, 10256 Indian Road, Gloucester,  will have in-person worship service on Sunday, July 19, at 11 a.m. Pastor Eugene Comithier II will preach and the Inspirational Voices will sing.

In-person Sunday school will be offered at 9:45 a.m.

Camp Zion Vacation Bible School will be offered 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 16 and 17. There will be Bible lessons, outdoor fun, arts and crafts, games, food and classes available for all ages. Camp Zion close out will be 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 18.

Immanuel Baptist Church, Saluda, will have its homecoming service at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 26. Minister Kimberly Williams of Well Church will deliver the Spoken Word. Music will be provided by the Mass Choir.

Lunch will be served following the morning service. There will be no afternoon service.

The Rev. Fred Sales, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, will be the revivalist.

Revival services will be in the evening, starting around 7 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, July 28-30, and will include praise and worship, worship service and the Preached Word.

The Rev. Dr. John C. Wright Jr. is Immanuel’s pastor.

Living Waters Lutheran Church will conduct a blessing of the animals ceremony  at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, in the Weems Park adjacent to Campbell Presbyterian Church, 3712 Weems Road, Weems.

The public is urged to bring their pets to this outdoor event and enjoy cake, ice cream and refreshments.


The Kingsmen Quartet is set to perform their 70th anniversary tour at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, 7722 General Puller Highway, Harmony Village. The community is invited and welcome to come.  A love offering for the quartet will be taken up that evening. Union Shiloh Baptist Church in Laneview will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday, July 19, at 11 a.m.

Evangelist Rose Mason will be the guest speaker and Dr. Irene Goins will be the worship leader.

Immanuel Baptist Church of Saluda is now on its summer schedule and its Sunday worship services are at 10 a.m. The services are preceded by Sunday school, which runs 9-9:45 a.m., and a praise service, which is 9:50-10 a.m.
