
Lower United Methodist Church, 120 Lower Church Road, Hartfield, will present a free piano concert given by Benjamin Garner, the church’s former church pianist, on Sunday afternoon, June 12, at 4 p.m. The program will consist of works for piano, and piano and violin, featuring composers Bach, Dett, and Coleridge-Taylor; Garner’s accompanying violinist is Jochen Gress. The Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) of Urbanna Baptist Church (UBC) will host a household items sale to benefit mission outreach from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 11, on the grounds of the UBC Mission House at 131 Watling St. in Urbanna. (It is next door to UBC.) “Don’t hesitate to come early!” said a WMU rep.
There will be a large variety of items, including housewares, yard goods and clothing. All items are in good repair. Donations will be accepted and 100% will be used to support Operation Christmas Child and HOPE for Appalachia.

Michael McNeill, music director at Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock, will take his quartet Allegories on tour this month, playing in venues from Baltimore to Detroit, but the band will start off its weeklong run with a concert at Grace next Wednesday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m.
Grace Episcopal Church is at 303 S. Main St. in Kilmarnock. There are no tickets for the concert; rather, the audience is encouraged to leave a freewill donation to support the musicians.
