Cathy Cauthorne Russell, 73, of Water View passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Catherine Gardner Cauthorne; and step-mother, Agnes Cauthorne Nunnally; her brothers, Phillip Pearson and Ronnie Schell; and her close friend Patricia Ellis.
Cathy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ronnie Russell; daughter, Shannon; grandson, Wyatt James; sisters-in-law, Connie Powell (Tommy), Gina Daniel (Dwight, deceased) and Lorelle Perry (Charles); numerous nieces and nephews; her partner in crime, Pat Alice Brooks; her two special cousins, Irene Crump and Catherine Murray; and her very special pup, Corbee.
Cathy grew up in Water View, graduating from Middlesex High School in 1966 and Smithdeal Massey Business College in 1968. Cathy was a lifelong member of Hermitage Baptist Church.
Cathy worked for the Bank of Middlesex, Commissioner of Revenue and retired from the Middlesex County Department of Social Services.
Cathy served as an EMT with the Middlesex County Rescue Squad for a number of years. She supported the Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department by serving in the Women’s Auxiliary as treasurer for more than 40 years. Cathy was instrumental in the renovations of the new kitchen with the help of the trustees from the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center.
Cathy’s desire to help others made an impact on the lives of so many. Her reputation for fast and wild driving preceded her wherever she went, whether it was off to a fire call or a midnight run to Walmart.
The family will cherish Cathy’s memory, her generous spirit, and sense of humor and not to mention her talent for cooking and love for feeding whoever walked through her door.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4 at Hermitage Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
