Betty Jean Holmes, 90, of White Stone, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024 at a Richmond hospital.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a member of Kilmarnock Baptist Church in Kilmarnock.
Betty is survived by her son, Jim Holmes (Amy); granddaughters, Jennifer Rollings (Joseph) and Janie Kelly (Justin); three great-grandchildren, Reagan Rollings, Bennett Rollings and Hayden Kelly; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James M. “Mel” Holmes Sr.; daughter, Debra Diane Holmes; her parents, Henry George and Edna Brooks Lightfoot; and a sister, Dorothy Howell.
Betty was a true “Southern Lady.” She was deep in her faith, loved her family and friends, and was always willing to help others. She spent many years in retail sales and was very particular and precise. She took pride in her work. In later days, Betty also enjoyed a good old-fashioned lunch date with her loved ones when running errands.
A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Kilmarnock. Family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Currie Funeral Home.
