Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger senior point guard Ichi Layne hit a milestone Friday night against the Carver High School Wolverines as the MHS basketball star reached the coveted 1,000 career points mark as a Charger.

Going into the Carver game, Layne needed 20 points to reach a career 1,000 points. He scored 23 points in the MHS loss to the Wolverines, 64-60.

Layne has scored an unprecedented 50% of the time this season from behind the 3-point line.

“When he hit 1,000 points Friday night, we wanted to stop play and present him a ball but he thought it might take away from the team by doing it,” said MHS Head Basketball Coach Curt Williamson.

“Ichi is a team player who understands the concept of playing basketball as a team and he is very easy to coach,” he said. “He is going to play college ball somewhere.”
