Leonard Powell is a true son of the lands and waters that surround us in Middlesex County. Leonard’s roots date back to his great-great-grandfather, born in 1821.
As a youth, Leonard spent his summers on the Chesapeake Bay working with his father aboard his dad’s 42-foot Deltaville-built deadrise and on the decks of the Nellie R., a 65-foot buyboat. His affinity and joy for the bay has never waned.
As those who attended his 2023 lecture will tell you, Leonard has stories to tell, and tells them well!
As a special treat to all, Leonard was so pleased to be invited back in 2024 that he is bringing his favorite caterer Dwain Jackson and “Backyard BBQ” to Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) to present a “Soul Food Tasting” at 3:30 p.m., right after his 2 p.m. lecture on Feb. 4.
Tickets will be limited to 100 in advance and can be purchased online, by phone or at DMM during open hours. Tickets are $10 per person.
