In separate calls, boat carrying two men sinks; two teens blown out into river

Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded to two distress calls in three days last week on the Rappahannock River, reported MCSO Maj. M.E. Sampson. 

On Tuesday, June 15, deputies used the sheriff’s office boat to rescue two men whose boat had sunk near the Middlesex-Essex county line, said Maj. Sampson. On Friday, June 18, the same two deputies used the boat again to come to the aid of two teens in a very small inflatable boat who had been blown out into the river by strong winds and current east of the Norris Bridge near Wake. 

On June 15, at 5:10 p.m. the MCSO received a 911 call of a boat taking on water in the Rappahannock River. Two Woodbridge men had been fishing in the Rappahannock when a wave broke over the bow and flooded the boat. One of the men in the boat was able to call 911, and from this call dispatchers were able to approximate their location as just north of Essex County…
