Excitement builds for Nov. 6-7 Urbanna Days

by Tom Chillemi –

With the traditional-format Urbanna Oyster Festival canceled for this year due to COVID-19, an art show, scavenger hunt, store specials and more are on tap for “Urbanna Days” on Nov. 6-7.

Shop, dine and stroll through Urbanna and check out town businesses offering their own special events and savings.

The event sponsor, the Urbanna Business Association, will be raffling off a gift basket filled with items from local stores. Visit any store for details. All businesses will strictly follow all COVID-19 guidelines.

Art contest

The Chesapeake Inn is presenting the 2020 Urbanna Days Art Contest with the theme “What I love about Urbanna.”

Prizes will be awarded in four age groups and adults are encouraged to enter. Any format is welcome to enter. The entries will be displayed in the inn’s lobby during Urbanna Days. The deadline to enter is Nov. 1. Visit TheChesapeakeInn.com for details.

Art show

Arts in the Middle (AIM) is offering COVID-19 safe space for artists to sell work during Urbanna Days.

A space will be set up on the Town Green (the vacant lot between Urbanna Post Office and the Urbanna ABC liquor store) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Artisans of all mediums are welcome to submit.

There is no booth fee, but a small donation from artists’ sales is asked to help AIM continue bringing art to the community.

For information, email artist coordinator Michael Kunzinger at mfkunzinger@gmail.com.

Oyster Stew

The Middlesex Kiwanis Club is taking orders for its oyster stew that can be picked up on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southside Sentinel parking lot. The stew sales will help the Kiwanis fund scholarships.

Pre-orders of the wonderful stew are for sale by the quart for $20 each. Quarts of oyster stew must be prepaid and ordered by Monday, Nov. 2. Please pre-order at www.urbanna.com/kiwanis.

Scavenger hunt

For a fun and challenging outdoor activity on Saturday, Nov. 7, try the Kiwanis Urbanna Days “Scavenger Hunt.”

Pick up your list of 12 questions at the Kiwanis oyster stew booth at the Southside Sentinel parking lot from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. then scour Urbanna’s hidden secrets to find the answers and win a reward. Some of the clues will be on the Museum In The Street signs.

For information, call Nancy Fisk at 508-612-9553.

Oyster Festival items

The Urbanna Oyster Festival Foundation will set up a tent in front of the town office to sell Oyster Festival memorabilia.
