Friday Fireman’s Parade winners named

The annual Urbanna Oyster Festival Fireman’s Parade on Friday night had 63 vehicles in the parade and drew hundreds of parade watchers along the town parade route.

“The number of vehicles were up from what we had last year in the parade,” said Ben Burch, president of the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department. “We are very happy that the area fire departments and rescue squads continue to support our parade.”

1,500 gallons per minute (GPM) and greater category:

  • First — Mathews Volunteer Fire Department Engine 210.
  • Second — Lower King & Queen Engine 45.
  • Third —  Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department Engine One.

1,250 GPM and less category:

  • First — Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department.
  • Second — Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department.
  • Third — Central King & Queen Volunteer Fire Department.

Tanker division:

  • First — Walkerton Volunteer Fire Department Tanker Seven.
  • Second — Upper King & Queen Volunteer Fire Department Tanker Seven.    
  • Third — Richmond County Volunteer Fire Department Farnham.

Brush truck division:

  • First — Mathews Volunteer Fire Department brush truck.
  • Second — Oak Grove Brush Truck Four.

Winners this year also include, antique division:

  • First — Prince George 1943 Seagrave.
  • Second — Smithfield 1938 Ford Oren.

Privately-owned antique division:     

  • First — East Grand Rapids Gary Herman.
  • Second — Williams Wharf Joe Reid.

Ladder truck division:

  • First — Colonial Beach Tower One.
  • Second — Westmoreland Montross Truck Two.
  • Third — Cople District Truck Six.              

Specialty unit division:

  • First — Colonial Beach 2022 F250 QRV.
  • Second — Metro Richmond Flying Squad Rehab Four.

Rescue squad division:

  • First — Gloucester Fire and Volunteer Rescue Squad.
  • Second — Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad Unit 38.
  • Third — Rappahannock Community College.                  

Traveled the greatest distance winner — Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department. 

Best Overall Fire Department winner — Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue.

Judges Award winner — Old Dominion Historical Society.
