County admin: Middlesex losing $52,000 by waiting to collect more lodging tax

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors conducted a public hearing Thursday, April 30, on a proposed $26,715,638 FY-21 budget with no tax increases, using $567,627 from the county’s “rainy day” fund to balance the budget. FY-21 refers to the fiscal year budget covering the period from July 1 through June 30, 2021.
Supervisors are considering this “bare bones” budget as a way, in part, to help county citizens get through the coronavirus pandemic that has crippled the nation’s economy and left many people without jobs.
If approved, tax rates will remain the same as in the FY-20 budget. The real estate…
