This Saturday, August 10, the Urbanna Farmers Market will be all about community and you can find it at Taber Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
It’s hard to believe that we’re into August already, but here we are. By this time each summer, vegetables are at their peak and the market is the altogether best place to pick and choose from the freshest and most succulent our local farmers have to offer.
School will be starting soon and as such the anticipation of fall is settling into our heads, so the month of August has an altogether different kind of energy. Fresh veggies, eggs, organic honey and a diverse selection of food seem to be what so many of us crave this time of the year. Soon, these items will not be available.
You’ll find so much to choose from at the market. Besides the bushel baskets full of tomatoes, squash, greens, potatoes, eggplant, corn, beans and more on display, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase fresh seafood, baked goods, pork rinds off the wagon, jams and jellies, handmade soaps, artwork and crafts.
“Hope for Paws” and the “Urbanna Cat Project” will be in their usual spots, and I’m happy to report that one of the kittens available last month has been adopted. If you think it’s time to adopt a forever companion, Saturday at the market is a great place to start. There are no more worthy organizations than these two local groups who work year-around to save and care for the dogs, puppies, cats and kittens who otherwise wouldn’t stand a chance. And if you’re not thinking about adopting, dig deep and contribute! Every cent helps and is very much appreciated.
The market committee would like to again thank the patrons who generously sponsor the live music performed during each market Saturday. These valuable patrons include Something Different Restaurant, The Auto Spa, Bay Design Group and the Half Shell Grill. This Saturday the “Something Different Duo” will be playing during the market, back by many requests.
And while we’re celebrating the market, our lovely town and the serenity we’ve grown accustomed to, may we be extra kind, considerate and grateful for the love we receive and that we can give to our friends and neighbors; especially to those who are dealing with loss and heartbreak.
