Urbanna United Methodist Church is sponsoring a pipe organ concert on Sunday, April 24, in the church sanctuary. All are invited to join them at 4 p.m. to listen to the only pipe organ in Middlesex County as it is played by renowned musician, Kelly Grooms.

Refreshments will be provided. Grooms is a member of the American Institute of Organ Builders, the Hymn Society of America and the various other organizations associated with both singing and playing the organ. She completed her doctorate with her thesis entitled, “An Exploratory Study on the Impact of Acoustics on Congregational Singing and Worship.”

Grooms is not only playing for the church service and recital, but she and her husband, George Payne, just completed the upgrade of the organ at the church. Both accomplished organists, they also operate a business, Grooms and Payne LTD, that installs new organs and refurbishes many of which are currently in play in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. George Payne has been in the pipe organ business since 1958. Both he and Kelly were responsible for installing the church’s new console, complete with a Peterson ICS 400 command system.

Visit the website at urbannamethodist.org or call the church office at 804-758-5308, if you need additional information.

Urbanna United Methodist Church is at 221 Marston Ave. at Cross Street.
