Multiple MHS winners named in five-way track meet

The Middlesex High School (MHS) boys varsity track teams had a triple event winner and two double winners last Wednesday, May 7, at the five-team meet at Essex High School in Tappahannock, while the Lady Chargers had two double winners.

Davonte Griffin paced the Chargers at Essex as the MHS sophomore won three events winning the 110 high hurdles (16.93); 300 intermediate hurdles (45.33) and high jump (6’ 2”).

Middlesex High School’s Cameron Lambert crossed the finish line in first place with a personal best time of 4:34.6 to win the 1,600 meters at Essex High School in Tappahannock on Wednesday, May 7.

Nielson McMinn continues to dominate the discus in the region as the MHS senior won the event (144’ 9”) and shot put (43’ 1.5”). Cameron Lambert ran a strong double in the middle distances as he cruised to a personal best time of 4:34.61 in the 1,600 meters and ran a 2:06.61 to win the 800 meters.

The Lady Chargers had two double winners as Karadee Anderson continued to dominate the region.

At the Jim Triemplar Memorial Invitational track meet in Mechanicsville on Saturday, May 10, Middlesex Charger Nielson McMinn took first place in the discus (153’ 8’ 5”) and Cameron Lambert finished eighth in the 3,200 meters (9:47.26), breaking his own school record of 9:59.41 set earlier this year.

Karadee Anderson, finished fifth in the shot put (32’ 11”) and seventh in the discus (89’ 4.5”), while Iyana Jenkins, finished third in 300 intermediate hurdles (48.79) and sixth in the 110 high hurdles (17.38).

Thomas Dobb qualified for the Class 1 state track meet in the 3,200 meters with a 10:39.05 clocking. He finished 26th in the 3,200 meters and 28th in the 1,600 meters (4:57.61). Gunnar Marston finished 20th in the 800 meters (2:05.88) and Darius Jones, 22nd (2:06.06). Jones also finished 36th in the 400 meters (57.72).

Other boys to compete in the meet were JaMar Hammond, 100 meter dash, 33rd (11.90) and high jump, tied for seventh, (5’ 10”); Chris Butler, 1,600 meters, 47th, (5:15.03) and 3,200 meters, 32nd, (11:13.91); McMinn, shot put, seventh (42’ 3.5”); Lucien Hampton, shot put, 24th (33’ 11”); and Dontray Tull, shot put, 31st (31’ 8”).

Girls

Other girls to compete were Leanna Baker, 100 meters, 31st (14.26); Kamryn Friday, 100 meters, 42nd (14.83) and 200 meters, 45th (30.19); Knenah Colbert, 200 meters, 54th (33.74); Olivia Hoffield, 800 meters, 41st (3:24.43) and 1,600 meters, 37th (7:45.57); Ada Anderson, 300 intermediate hurdles, 20th (1:03.54); Alyssa Hooks, 300 intermediate hurdles, 21st (1:04.74); and Bailey Bagby, high jump, tied for sixth (4’ 8”).
