The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger varsity baseball team (8-6, 5-1) had two Tidewater District wins last week, defeating Mathews, 2-0, on Tuesday, April 29, and West Point, 12-1, on Thursday, May 1.
In the 2-0 shutout of the Blue Devils, Henry Fleet paced MHS from the mound allowing no runs, two hits, and two runners to reach on base on balls in his seven inning game pitching.
Jakub Bowen paced the Chargers on offense with a hit in the third inning that scored two runs. Thomas Foster had a hit. Shane Glenn and Robbie Brown scored for Middlesex.
Against the West Point Pointers the game was close until the sixth and seventh innings when MHS scored four runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh.
The Chargers had seven hits in the 12-1 game. Luke McMurtrie was the only Charger with multiple hits. He had three hits and three RBIs. Glenn, Bowen, Bryson Bulgin, and Fleet each had a hit in the game.
Bowen pitched the entire seven innings in the game giving up four hits, one run, giving up two bases on balls and it was clearly his best outing of the season on the mound.
The Chargers traveled to Rappahannock High School in Warsaw to take on the Raiders on Monday, May 5, to Charles City to play the Panthers on Tuesday, May 6, and will travel to King William to play the Cavaliers today, Thursday, May 8.
