More than 200 United States Marines ran through the streets of Saluda on Thursday, Oct. 8, from the former home of Lt. General Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller to his gravesite at Christ Church Parish in Christchurch.
The annual event speaks to the respect Marines have for “Chesty,” the most decorated Marine in United States history.
Puller’s wife, Virginia, was a native of Middlesex County and on retirement from the Marine Corps in 1955, the family moved into the home in Saluda. Puller was a vestry member at Christ Church and is buried in its cemetery. (Photo by Larry Chowning)
