Lucile Roberta Cooke-Carmichael, 84, of Duluth, Ga., passed away on December 21, 2019. Lucile was preceded in death by spouse Thomas “TJ” Carmichael, and parents Dall Edward Sr. and Bessie Lee Cooke.
Lucile is survived by her son, T. Jeff Carmichael, and his spouse Cecilia and his daughter Kiana; her daughter, Sheila Carmichael; her siblings, Dall Edward Jr. (deceased), Charles Cooke, Allen L. Cooke, Herman Cooke, Hazel Carter, and Dora Alice DeJarnette (deceased); and several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.
Lucile was a born in Hartfield and lived most of her life in Spring Valley, N.Y. She also touched communities in Baltimore, Md., Kansas City, Missouri, Edison, N.J., and various cities in Gwinnett County, Ga. Lucile attended University of Maryland where she received her nursing certificate and worked as a Nurses Aide at University of Maryland Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Ramapo General Hospital. In addition, Lucile worked as a Lab Technician at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals (formerly known as Lederle Laboratories).
While living in Spring Valley, N.Y., Lucile’s passion for supporting the community and helping children motivated her to establish a college scholarship fund for African American students of Rockland County. She was the president of the “The Socialite Club,” which hosted many events for raising scholarship funds.
Lucile was a full member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hartfield. Her favorite hobbies included hosting events and parties for family and friends, as well as playing cards and bingo, enjoying casinos, and socializing with people.
The funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Lucile Carmichael was held on December 26 at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel.
