Recently, two Middlesex County citizens were presented with recognition awards by the Garden Club of the Middle Peninsula (GCMP). The awards recognize significant efforts to restore, improve, and protect the quality of the environment through programs and action in the fields of conservation, civic improvement, education and gardening.

In making the presentations, Anne Glubiak, GCMP local project and recognition awards co-chairman, reflected, “These two individuals demonstrated remarkable initiative, organizational skill, volunteer recruitment, and follow-through in creating and sustaining their respective environmentally oriented community service projects. The GCMP couldn’t be more honored to recognize them.”

Alyson Holt had a self-taught passion for gardening, and upon retirement, she found an ambitious way to put that passion to work. She designed, secured funding for, and built a 40-foot-square garden featuring six large, prolific raised beds and climbing plants along its perimeter, all with the goal of providing much-needed fresh produce for local food distribution centers.
