The Cat Writers’ Association (CWA) recently announced Lesley O’Brien is a winner in the annual CWA Communications Contest.
O’Brien, a Deltaville sailor, won a Certificate of Excellence (COE) for “An Impawsible Predicament; The Adventures of Captain Marco” in the illustrated children’s book category along with illustrator and co-creator Emmett Donavan of Roanoke.
“An Impawsible Predicament” is the second in a three-book series about Marco, a rough-around-the-edges former street cat turned sailboat captain, the stories for which are based in the Chesapeake Bay and inspired by O’Brien’s adventures sailing with her feline companion, Marco.
The communications contest is a global competition that recognizes outstanding cat-focused work across a diverse range of media. This year, there were entries from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Great Britain, New Zealand, Japan, Puerto Rico and 28 U.S. states. Categories included publications, articles published in print or online, poetry and fiction, non-fiction books, digital and broadcast media and images. Contest entries come from fiction/non-fiction writers, journalists, bloggers, photographers, artists, broadcasters, veterinary professionals and other content creators.
COE winners are eligible to win the Muse Medallion in their category. The Muse is the highest award the CWA gives to content creators. Winners will be awarded at an annual convention Nov. 6 and 7 in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas.
