Christchurch School (CCS) opened the doors last month on its 101st school year. It is at capacity and with a record number of new students.
For Jeb Byers, Christ-church’s longest-serving head of school, it is the start of his 21st year as head and 32nd year at CCS, where he started as a Latin instructor. Byers will retire at the conclusion of the school year.
He reflects, “It is rewarding to see so much demand for our program. Our faculty meet students where they are and take them beyond their expectations. With students from 21 countries and 16 states, we are lucky to offer a global experience to our students. Our model of engaging with the subjects makes learning more interesting and more tailored to each student’s growth. The goal is for our graduates to have the skills for future learning in any environment and for a lifetime.”
He adds, “And to know that every member of a community has certain responsibilities for sup-porting the community. We are a very small school, so we have the chance to look beyond test scores and statistics and look for that gem of a human being inside and bring their best selves out.
“Designing a program that is so impactful and life-changing has been the work of our faculty for many years. It is gratifying for all of our professionals to see that students and families want this experience of learning and growing. From the classrooms to the playing fields, every moment is a teachable moment and we strive to make every moment count towards enriching our student’s lives.”
