Bay Aging delivers gifts

Above, from left, are Bay Aging staff member Stephanie Hutton, Port Town Village resident Linda Liverman, Bay Aging board member Marcia Jones, and Bay Aging staff member Jett Bullion.

As they did last year, Bay Aging partnered with Home Instead Senior Care to provide 142 deserving seniors across the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula with gifts this holiday season.  With nearly 340 residents in Bay Aging’s income-restricted senior apartments, there are a lot of very deserving people who received Christmas gifts through the “Be a Santa to a Senior” program. This program provides gifts to low or no-income seniors who might not otherwise have received them.

On December 18, Bay Aging board member Stanley Clarke teamed up with Bay Aging and Home Instead Senior Care staff to deliver gifts to Bay Aging’s Adult Day Care facility in Tappahannock. Gifts were also delivered to Bay Aging’s Warsaw/Essex County Active Lifestyle Center and Northumberland Active Lifestyle Center. Later that day, Bay Aging board member Marcia Jones and Bay Aging staff delivered gifts to seniors at the Port Town Village apartments in Urbanna.

Instead of a sleigh, Bay Transit bus driver Larry Chatham brought a Bay Transit bus filled with gifts for distribution to seniors at Bay Aging’s senior apartments in Urbanna, Kilmarnock and Gloucester. Gifts were also delivered to residents at Bay Aging’s senior apartments in West Point, and clients at their active lifestyle centers in Middlesex and Gloucester counties and their adult day care facility in Gloucester.

Kathy Vesley, Bay Aging president and CEO, said, “This year’s event was a huge success and we appreciate everything that Stephanie Derry at Home Instead Senior Care did to help us make the holidays more special for some of our neediest seniors. As you can imagine, the holidays can be especially hard on seniors without family in the area. The Be a Santa to a Senior program touched the hearts of some very deserving individuals.”
