Both Middlesex track squads finish first at six-team meet

Boys

The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger boys track team won a six-team meet at Charles City High School on April 18 as Jaquan Griffin paced MHS with double wins in the long jump and triple jump.

J. Griffin won the triple jump with a 46-foot jump and long jump with a 20-foot, 10.5-inch leap. Other Charger winners were Kevin Turner, 400 meters (56.20); Davonte Griffin, high jump (5’ 10”); and Cameron Lambert, 110 high hurdles (16.89). Lambert’s time of 16.89 qualified him for the Class 1 state track meet. The standard qualifying time is 17 seconds.

The Chargers also had first place finishes in the 4 by 400 and 4 by 800 relays. The 4 by 400 relay legs were run by Jamar Hammond, D. Griffin, Lambert and Darius Jones. The 4 by 800 meter relay legs were run by Jones, Gunnar Marston, Joseph Rowe and Thomas Dobb.

Middlesex won the meet with 199.50 points; Lancaster, second, 128; Hampton Roads Academy, third, 85; Rappahannock of Warsaw, fourth, 78.50; Richmond Christian Academy, fifth, 14; and Banner Christian School, sixth, 3 points.

The Chargers will have a home meet today, Thursday, April 25, at the John Lemon Memorial Track in Saluda starting at 4 p.m.

Girls

The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger girls track team won a six-team meet on April 18 at Charles City as Karadee Anderson was a double winner winning the shot put and discus.

Middlesex scored 135.5 points as a team. Rappahannock of Warsaw was second, 125 points; Lancaster, third, 89; Hampton Roads Academy, fourth, 78.50; Richmond Christian, fifth, 14; and Banner Christian School, sixth, 3 points.

Anderson won the discus (91’ 10”) and shot put (34’ 3.5”). E’Mony Jones won the 400 meters (1:05.19); Makayla Moore won high jump (4’ 7”); and Chelsey Holmes won long jump (16’ 9”).

The Lady Chargers have a home meet today, Thursday, April 25. The meet starts at 4 p.m. The schedule does not list teams participating in the meet.
