MC supervisors to announce $36 million FY-25 budget

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors is going to advertise a $36 million fiscal year 2025 (FY-25) budget next week that will fund a 3% cost of living adjustment for county employees, with no tax increase to taxpayers and no funds coming out of the county’s fund balance to balance the budget.

The proposal came on the heals of the Virginia school superintendent breaking news to local school officials that the General Assembly budget includes $749,000 in state funds to Middlesex schools that local school officials had not anticipated.

The funding has been approved by the General Assembly — House and Senate — but still has to receive approval from Gov. Glenn Youngkin. The governor has until April 17 to sign off on or deny the General Assembly budget.

Middlesex County School Superintendent Dr. Tracy Seitz said the school system plans to use the additional monies to fund a 3% raise to all school employees; cover a 9% increase in health insurance so it will not cost employees any additional dollars; and to fund a mathematics position at St. Clare Walker Middle School.
