Vincent E. Johnson, 68, of Hampton, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at the VA Medical Center in Hampton, after a brief illness.
Vincent was born Oct. 16, 1954, to the late William E. Johnson and Dorothy E. Johnson of Saluda.
Upon graduating from Middlesex High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his county for four years earning an honorable discharge.
He went to work for Branscome Inc., retiring as a foreman for the paving crew.
Vincent always had a smile on his face and never left you without saying, “I love you.” He was a person that loved his family and was never afraid to show it. Known to his friends as VJ, he never met a stranger because everybody was a friend to him.
He was preceded in death by his, father, Deacon Williiam E. Johnson.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Dorothy E. Johnson, of Saluda; his wife of 38 years, Alice Faye Johnson of Hampton; two sisters, Helen Allen (Kerman) of Williamsburg, and Gillian Sutherlin (Myron) of Gloucester Point; one son, Curtis Fulgham Jr. (Ebony) of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Chundrika Pittman (Kevin) of Suffolk; five grandchildren, Takira Gray, Courtney Gray, Curtis Fulgham III, Olivia Fulgham, and Justine Fulgham; four great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Ophela Edwards (Melvin), Celia Williams and Daisy Overton, all of Hampton; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service is planned for noon Friday, Feb. 10 at Calvary Baptist Church, Saluda. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The viewing will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the church. Services of comfort entrusted to J.K. Redmond Funeral Home.
