The Deltaville Deltas won their fifth consecutive game last week, homering their way past the defending league champions, Richmond El Heaters, in a 5-2 win in Richmond on Tuesday, July 5.

The long ball was the name of the game for both teams. Richmond took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a solo homerun, but Deltaville’s Ryan Pastirik fired back in the top of the second with a solo homer of his own.

An insurance run in the ninth off the bat of Tucker Bratton sealed the game for Deltaville.

Saturday’s game against the Richmond River Dogs was postponed due to rain, and will be made up during the final weekend in July.

Community Night Saturday

Deltaville returns to action this week against the upstart Richmond Camel Crickets. The Deltas faced the Crickets on the road on Tuesday, July 12, and host the Richmond-based team on Saturday night at Deltaville Ballpark. In a special event, the Middlesex Family YMCA is sponsoring “Community Night at the Ballpark.” The first 100 fans will be admitted free. Gates for the 7:30 p.m. game open at 6 p.m.
