Celebrate Light explores gardening, animal control

Danielle Norris (above), director of Compass Academy and Virtual Learning, speaks at the Celebrate Light community youth group program at the Middlesex County skateboard facility at Cooks Corner.

The June 24 Celebrate Light youth group program was sponsored by the Middlesex County Parks and Recreation Department. Norris talked about her program and the boxed raised garden her students built and planted. Middlesex Deputy Sheriff Ron Hirtz (right) spoke to the children about Middlesex County’s animal control program. The county’s animal shelter is adjacent to its skateboard site.

Churches and organizations interested in hosting a gathering for the Celebrate Light community youth group are invited to get involved, according to Terry Rogers, chairman of Celebrate Light. She added that Zoar Baptist Church in Deltaville will host an August back-to-school event at its bayside “beach” location near Stingray Point in Deltaville. More details will be available soon. For information, call Rogers at 850-974-0863. (Photos by Larry Chowning)
