Water gushes from some Middlesex hydrants as new system tested

Tests of the first section of the Middlesex Water Authority pipeline system began last week.

The pipeline for the first phase from the wells near Urbanna to Topping at Grey’s Point Camp was slowly filled with water for pressure testing.

Contractors opened hydrants and other fixtures to release air as the pipeline was filled. This process took several days and approximately 100,000 gallons of water, said MWA Chairman Greg Chambers. On Monday morning, the hydrant at St. Clare Walker Middle School flowed water.

“I should stress that while this is a big milestone, we are not in operation,” said Chambers.

Construction of pipelines began Dec. 1, 2020 with pipes being laid simultaneously along General Puller Highway (Route 33) and Grey’s Point Road (Route 3).

Getting water lines built throughout Deltaville will take until mid 2022…
