The fire that destroyed Lower King and Queen Baptist Church last month in the Church View/Dragonville area is still under investigation by state fire officials, said minister Terry Morrison on Monday.

The Rev. Morrison, the church’s pastor, said the church is waiting for state fire officials to complete their investigation and to authorize church officials to begin cleanup of the area.

Fire destroyed the 100-year-old church building on Friday, Aug. 13. The fire at the church was first sighted around 1 a.m. and seven local fire departments responded to the fire.

The church is conducting services at the King and Queen Woman’s Club building at 208 Allens Circle at King and Queen Courthouse at 11 a.m. on Sundays.

Anyone interested in helping the church rebuild can send their donations to Lower King and Queen Baptist Church, C/O T.O. Longest, P.O. Box 126, King and Queen Courthouse, VA 23085 and write on the check “building fund.”
