Douglas Seaford Staton Jr.

Douglas Seaford Staton Jr., 76, of Topping went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 with his family at home.

Doug was born on July 13, 1944 in Buena Vista to Douglas and Kathleen (Carter) Staton.
He met the love of his life, Bobbi, in August 1967 on a double date and they were married on Nov. 22, 1967 in Buena Vista.

Doug worked in the construction industry for more than 40 years as a cost estimator and scheduler. He worked on projects all over the United States as well as in Indonesia and Afghanistan.

He enjoyed listening to country gospel music, leathercraft and playing Santa Claus. He was a volunteer EMT for 10 years in Virginia, New York, and Nevada. He was a member of Living Waters Church in Dutton. His great faith in Jesus and the knowledge of where he was going to spend eternity helped sustain him through his final illness.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara, of Topping; two children, Doug (Cheri) Staton of Battle Mountain, Nevada and Teresa (Paul) McLaughlin of Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren, Sarah (Dylan) Martin, Jennifer Staton, Jakob McLaughlin, and Carter McLaughlin; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Kathy A. Rion; and his granddaughter, Afton Staton.

The funeral service is planned for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 12 at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda. Graveside interment will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 13 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens, Lexington. Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda, is in charge of all arrangements.

The family would like to thank Bay Aging and Riverside Walter Reed Hospice for their support during Doug’s final illness.
