Fred B. “Pete” Ward

Fred B. “Pete” Ward, 73, of Gloucester (formerly of Urbanna) died peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Pete’s earthly journey came to an end on Monday, May 23, 2021.

In life, he enjoyed fresh-water fishing, playing tennis and golfing; yet all the joy he gained from those activities didn’t compare to the happiness he felt while spending time with his family. In the last few years of his life, he savored the serenity and peace he felt while sitting on the porch of his home overlooking the beautiful Ware River. He is most fondly remembered for his kindness, generosity and humble disposition.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lee Ward.

He is survived by his wife, Joanie S. Ward; his son, Ron Ward; his daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Jeff Kerr; his granddaughters, Carson M. Kerr, Mallory G. Kerr, and Kaitie K. Garland (Joey); and great -grandson, Gentry Garland.

He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Tony Walton; his nephew, Brian Walton (Angela); their children: Jordan, Hailey, and Laura Walton; his niece, Kristy Sachs (Steve); and their children Hannah, Carly, and Grayson Sachs.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Pete Ward is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday, May 29 at Hogg Funeral Home, 3098 George Washington Memorial Highway, Hayes.

The family requests donations in Pete’s honor be made to the Middlesex County Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 71, Urbanna, VA 23175.

Services are under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
