Deltaville Deltas open 2021 season May 29

by Stephen Blue –

The Deltaville Deltas baseball team returns to action for the 2021 season this weekend, with a full slate of games and a roster full of returning veterans and talented newcomers.

The Deltas open up Saturday, May 29 against longtime rival Tappahannock Tides, with a 7:30 p.m. first pitch at Deltaville Ballpark. Home games are scheduled every Saturday night through the end of July, with the Richmond NABA league tournament set to be played in early August.

The Richmond NABA will look a bit different this year, with 12 teams divided into two divisions. Deltaville and Tappahannock look to be the early favorites in the east division, and will be competing against newcomers in the form of the Heathsville Hurricanes, Caroline Cubs, Richmond Yankees, and Richmond Braves. Teams will play each team in their division twice, and once against each team in the Richmond-based west division.

The Deltas are returning 18 players from its 2020 campaign, in which it posted a successful 12-4 record in the abbreviated season before falling in the league championship. At the plate, 10 of the top 11 run-producing Deltas return from a year ago, and seven of the top 8 pitchers will be returning to the mound.

A host of newcomers join the team, including former Mathews High School players Logan Stigle and Tyler Moore, along with former Gloucester High School players Aidan Carter and Brodie Carter.

All Deltas home games are played at Deltaville Ballpark, Virginia’s oldest all-wooden baseball stadium. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for teens, and free for children 12 and under. The concession stand, with burgers, crab cakes, nachos, and more, is fully open for the season. Fans are asked to remember that Deltaville Ballpark is a cash-only facility.
