Middlesex County supervisors OK hiring additional legal staff

After a closed session Tuesday, March 2, pursuant of Virginia Code Sections regarding discussion of personnel matters, specifically regarding the county attorney’s office and discussion of acquisition of real property, the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to authorize the hiring of additional support staff for the county attorney’s office and on another 4-1 vote to hire an attorney to handle “a matter involving real estate.”

Pinetop representative Lud Kimbrough, Hartfield representative John Koontz, Harmony Village supervisor Reggie Williams, and Jamaica District supervisor Wayne Jessie voted in favor of both motions, while Saluda District Supervisor Pete Mansfield voted against both.

At the meeting there was no explanation why supervisors voted for nor did Mansfield explain his votes against.

In an email request by the Sentinel for more information on why supervisors voted for additional support to her office, Lewis replied, “As you know, I represent the county, Economic Development Authority, Broadband Authority and the Water Authority. There are numerous important projects under way and I thought it prudent to seek additional staff…”
