COVID-19 continues to spread havoc in the Middlesex County community as students at Middlesex Elementary School (MES) and St. Clare Walker Middle School (SCW) have been diagnosed with the virus.

In an email to the Middlesex County Public School (MCPS) family from MCPS superintendent Dr. Peter Gretz on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 6:33 p.m. he stated the students infected were last in school on Friday, Jan. 15.

“We have implemented contact tracing and determined that two staff members were considered in close contact and will be quarantined,” he wrote.

“Eight MES students were considered to have been in close contact in school and eleven other students were considered to be in close contact while on the bus, all of whom will be quarantined,” he wrote.

Dr. Gretz stated that, “if you (parents) have not already been contacted by the school administrator, your child is not considered a close contact.”

Close contact is defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as someone who was within six feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from two days before illness onset.

“We continue to be in communication with the Three Rivers Health District containment team and will update our community should there be any new information shared,” he wrote.
