More COVID-19 cases discovered at Middlesex Elementary

Second staff member, sixth student placed in quarantine after tests

Another Middlesex County Public School (MCPS) employee and a student at Middlesex Elementary School (MES) have tested positive for COVID-19, according to MCPS Superintendent Peter Gretz.

Dr. Gretz informed the school community in two separate emails on Friday, Nov. 20, that a staff member at MES has been quarantined due to a confirmed exposure to COVID-19 outside of school and an MES student has also tested positive.

Last week, an MES staff member tested positive, resulting in five students and two staff members being quarantined. Now, at least six MES students and three staff members have been quarantined.

“Today we were informed that one MES student has tested positive,” said Dr. Gretz. “Prior to this morning the student had not been in school since last Friday.

“This case is believed by the Health Department to be the result of community exposure, not school exposure,” he said. “We are able to determine that the student has not been in close contact with any other individuals in the school…
