Superintendent excited about in-person learning return

It goes without saying that if you are reading this letter your life has been dramatically changed since March 13. The governor closed schools across the commonwealth that day and we have not had significant, constant face-to-face engagement with our students since. I am moved, excited and grateful as we approach the day that will change.

This Thursday, Nov. 5, we will open our doors, hearts and classrooms to our students for the first time in seven months. We are doing so because for many of our students remote instruction is widening learning gaps that will be increasingly hard to overcome. We are doing so because we know that for many of our students school is the safest place they can be during this pandemic. We are doing so because our seniors need to be fully prepared for college and work in order to thrive during their next phase. We are doing so because some of our students with disabilities cannot receive the services they need in a remote learning environment. The same is true for our students who need mental health support.

We are offering in-person learning because we know many of our families and our students need it, and it’s our job to provide it.
