Proposed rezoning would allow Bethpage expansion

Bethpage Camp-Resort near Urbanna is seeking to rezone a parcel of about 180 acres to Waterfront Commercial from Low Density Rural so it may add 534 campsites and 61 cottages to its existing 970 sites.

The owner and applicants, MHC Bethpage LLC and MHC Bethpage Expansion LLC of Chicago, have made proffers and are seeking to amend proffers made in 1994 that restrict campsites on a portion of the property. The owners are also seeking to modify the Middlesex Comprehensive Plan’s future land use map to show the rezoning change.

The primary purpose of the application is to allow for campsite development closer to Old Virginia Street. When fully built, the campground would have 1,471 campsites and 94 cottages.
