Chicago-based RV resort firm adds 253 sites to MC property

There is a new look on Old Virginia Street west of the Town of Urbanna as Bethpage Camp-Resort, owned by Chicago-based Encore RV Resorts Thousand Trails nears completion of its most recent expansion.

According to the Middlesex County Planning Department office, the campground has approval for 595 new RV sites and 253 of those were added with this expansion.

As part of amended proffers approved on April 27, 2020 by the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors that changed the zoning to waterfront commercial, a new entrance gate has been built off Old Virginia Street (Route 602). The entrance includes queuing lanes and a gatehouse.

“The gatehouse is located far enough into the property so we hope there will be little backup on Route 602,” said Middlesex Planner David Kretz. “This is also taking a lot of the traffic off Brown’s Lane (where the original entrance was located).”

Right near the road (602), a new swimming pool has been built and the nearly completed blue building is a pool/bath house and the brick building is going to be for offices and possible retail shops, said Kretz.

As part of the 2020 amended proffers, the campground is required to make improvements at the intersection of Town Bridge Road and Old Virginia Street and install a turn lane into the main entrance.

According to the Bethpage website, there are 1,034 sites. “Chow down at the new Poolside Cafe and Beach House Grill or make it a night to remember by playing miniature golf and enjoying 20 different flavors of ice cream at Bethpage Miniature Golf and Ice Creamery,” the website states.
